On the second night of this thrilling competition, IU Indianapolis' Yassin Abdelghany made waves, quite literally. In a breathtaking performance, Abdelghany shattered the previous Horizon League record in the men's 50-yard freestyle, clocking an incredible 18.91 seconds. This not only secured his spot at the 2026 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships but also left a lasting impact on the conference's history books.

In other exciting news, Olivia Sweetman from Youngstown State dominated the women's 500 freestyle, shaving off an impressive four and a half seconds from her prelims time. Her final time of 4:49.29 earned her the first individual Horizon League title of her career. However, Oakland's Golden Grizzlies made their mark too, with a strong finish of 2-3-4-5-7, securing a massive points haul.
The next event saw another Penguin, Quinn Cynor, take the top spot in the 500 frees. Cynor's battle back from a 2nd-place turn at the 200-yard mark resulted in a well-deserved win at 4:20.78. This marks his first Horizon League title, adding to his previous WAC event titles from his time at Wyoming. With Oakland's Karel Subagyo finishing just over a second behind, the stage is set for an exciting showdown in the 200 free final tomorrow.
Oakland's Clarissa Bezuidenhout and Kelley Hassett dominated the women's 200 IM, finishing 1-2 with impressive times of 2:01.68 and 2:02.58, respectively. YSU's Hannah Murray completed the top three, showcasing her skills with a sub 2:03 performance.
Max Haney of Oakland took control of the 200 IM race from the 50-yard mark onwards, ultimately winning with a key 24.72 freestyle split. His time of 1:44.68 was two seconds faster than his second-place finish last season, solidifying his improvement.
The Milwaukee women's team continued their impressive run, with Gabrielle LePine claiming an individual title in the 50 free. LePine's win, an improvement of three spots from last season, showcases the team's depth and talent.
IU Indy's Sebastian Otero, a familiar face at the top of the podium, claimed his fourth consecutive league title in men's 1-meter diving. His score of 400.20 was a remarkable 43 points better than the championship final field.
The Milwaukee women's relay team, consisting of LePine, Brielle Laube, Mara Freeman, and Christina Brooks, continued their dominance with a win in the 200 free relay. Their time of 1:31.77 was faster than Oakland's effort of 1:32.49.
And this is the part most people miss... Oakland made more history by breaking their own conference record in the 200 free relay. The team of Ajjuub Ezzat, Micah Scheffer, Harry Nicholson, and Charlie Brown, with a combined time of 1:17.16, clipped their previous record of 1:17.73. With three returners from the 2025 record-breaking relay, this team is a force to be reckoned with.
