The Unmasking of a 'Normal' Predator: Jon Ruben's Dark Secret
A chilling tale of deception and abuse has emerged, revealing the true nature of a seemingly ordinary man. Jon Ruben, once a trusted camp leader at Stathern Lodge, has been unmasked as a predator, with a shocking 17 convictions to his name. But it's the story of one brave survivor that sheds light on the darkness he hid behind a facade of normality.
The survivor, who wishes to remain anonymous, shares her harrowing experience, recalling a time when Ruben's presence seemed innocuous. As a child, she would witness him at school, singing religious hymns during assembly and running a church club in Clifton, Nottingham. Little did she know, this was the same man who would later be exposed as a monster.
"I always thought he was a nice man," she says, her voice trembling with a mix of emotions. The survivor's account reveals a disturbing pattern of behavior. During her stays at Stathern Lodge, she noticed Ruben's absence at night, claiming he was tending to the boys' side. This raised red flags, especially since the lodge offered free accommodation, a fact that even her mother found suspicious.
"We didn't have to pay a penny, so even my mum at the time thought it was a bit dodgy," she recalls. "But I kept begging her because all my friends were going."
Among the activities, the survivor remembers a game where someone would eat chocolate blindfolded. While she finds it harmless in hindsight, the context of Ruben's later crimes casts a dark shadow over these seemingly innocent moments.
"There wasn't really any harm done by it back then anyway," she says, her tone reflecting a mix of nostalgia and disbelief. "You don't look for things like that, and I've never felt anything by it with his sweets and his chocolate games."
However, the revelation of Ruben's crimes has left the survivor with a profound sense of betrayal. "Absolutely vile," she describes him, her words echoing the pain and anger she feels. "I can't believe I've been let around him."
The survivor's account highlights the complexity of the situation, as she acknowledges the potential differences in the boys' perspectives. "We never suspected a thing with him at all," she says, her voice laced with a mixture of shock and disbelief. "But I don't know, the boys might have to say something different, but I don't know. I can't speak on behalf of them."
